Applied Learning Programme (ALP) @ NSS
Our Applied Learning Programme (ALP) is Gerontology & Geriatrics – Health Care for the Elderly. Gerontology is the study of aging and Geriatrics is the branch of medicine that specialises in the treatment of disease in older adults.
Our ALP aims to expose our students to the rudiments of Gerontology & Geriatrics so that they acquire knowledge about the biological, cognitive and social aspects of aging. At the same time, they will learn about health care of elderly people and how to support them in the management of diseases and disabilities in old age.
Through the ALP, we hope our students will cultivate the values of respect and responsibility towards the elderly, starting with those in their immediate families and the community. We also hope to inspire them to explore the science of aging; and possibly consider taking up a related course of study in the future.
