Zhang Tianyou (4R1) - Highest Mark In The World For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics
Northland Secondary School is proud to announce that Zhang Tianyou (4R1) achieved the Highest Mark in the World Award for his Pearson Edexcel International GCSE. The International GCSE (IGCSE) is an equivalent qualification to the local ‘O’ Levels, and Pearson Edexcel is one of three UK examination boards offering the IGCSE.
Tianyou has done us proud by obtaining the following Outstanding Learner Awards for his Pearson Edexcel IGCSE papers in January 2018:
- Highest Mark in Singapore, Asia AND the World for Mathematics
- Highest Mark in Singapore for Physics
The school would also like to thank his Mathematics Teacher, Mr Chen Weizhong, for his invaluable support for Tianyou, and for being such an inspiration for all his students.
Achievement for Hockey - Singapore Schools Sports Council (SSSC) Colours Award - Distinction
Northland Secondary School is proud to announce that Dawnraj Rengasamy from 4R4, has been awarded the SSSC Colours Distinction Award for his outstanding contribution to school and national hockey. Dawnraj represented Singapore in the Youth Olympic Games qualifiers held in Thailand this year. Congratulations Dawnraj!
Achievement for Hockey - Singapore Schools Sports Council (SSSC) Colours Award – Best Sportsboy Award
Northland Secondary School is proud to announce that Muhammad Zaki B Zulkarnain from 5R1, has been awarded the SSSC Best Sportsboy Award for his outstanding contributions to school and national hockey. Zaki represented Singapore in the Under-21 Pra-Sukan Games in Malaysia, the Youth Olympic Games qualifiers in Thailand and also in the Hockey Series Open held in Singapore this year. Zaki has demonstrated tremendous character and commitment to the sport. Congratulations Zaki!
National School Games (NSG) C Division Hockey Sportsmanship Award
Northland Secondary School is proud to announce that our Northstars, Mohamed Harith Bin Mohamed Hanafi and Nurin Izyani Binte Zalani from 2T2 have been accorded the NSG C Division Sportsboy and Sportsgirl Awards for their exemplary sportsmanship in and off the field. The recipients of this award are nominated by the coaches and teachers, supported by the NSG organising committee.

Northland Secondary School is proud to announce that 18 of our Northstars have been accorded the SSSC Colours Awards for their achievement in Hockey. Congratulations to our Hockey boys!
Southeast Asian Pipe Band Championships 2018
On 9and 10 June 2018, the Pipe Band participated in the annual Southeast Asian Pipe Band Championships 2018. The competition is a platform for pipe bands in Southeast Asia to pit their skills against one another as well as promote Scottish bagpipe and drums’ music. Northland is proud to announce that Edmund Tan (2T3) and Kenneth Foo (3A4) achieved third and fourth positions for Solo in Snare Drum (Juvenile). In addition, Zhang Wenzheng (3A3) and Lua Chin Siang (2T3) achieved fourth place for Solo in Piping (Juvenile).
Singapore Hockey Federation (SHF) under-14 Hockey 5-a-side competition
Northland is proud to announce that our under-14 C Division girls team achieved third place in the SHF under-14 Hockey 5-a-side competition and our boys team achieved fourth position in the boys’ category. The competition allows schools to pit their hockey skills with each other and also prepare them for the National School Games (NSG).
National School Games (NSG) B Division Girls Hockey
The National School Games (NSG) recognises that sports participation and competitions play an important role in the character development of our students, as they pursue sporting excellence. Northland is proud to announce that our B Division Girls Hockey achieved third place in the plate category. Congratulations to our B Division Girls.
North Zone Secondary Schools Chinese Speech Competition
The school would like to congratulate Nie Yi from 4R1 for winning the North Zone Secondary Schools Chinese Speech Competition. The competition is organised by the North Zone Cluster 5 secondary schools and allows students to gain the opportunity to develop their oratorical skills and confidence. Despite the fierce competition, Nie Yi managed to keep her composure and achieve an amazing result for the school and herself.
National School Games – Hockey ‘B’ Division Boys
On 29 March 2018, our Hockey B Division boys played against the team from St Andrew’s Secondary School for 3rd/4th placing in the National School Games. Team Northland fought hard and held 1-1, resulting in a penalty shootout to break the deadlock. Our boys continued to display resilience and a strong fighting spirit against their opponents. Team Northland won the penalty shootout with a score of 4-3, and emerged as National 3rd in Hockey! Congratulation boys!
National Olympiad in Informatics
The school would like to congratulate Zhang Tianyou from 4R1 for being awarded the Silver medal and being placed in the top one-quarter of competition participants in the National Olympiad in Informatics.The competition was organised by the National University of Singapore (NUS) School of Computing. Competitors were judged on their problem-solving skills and Mastery of programming language. Despite the stiff competition from other schools, including junior colleges, Tianyou remained composed to achieve a stellar result for himself.
Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) Science & Technology Challenge
Congratulations to our Northstars, Dhanalakshmi, Nur Tarisha Ashira Bte M A and Syaza Hazirah Bte Zainal Abidin from 3A1 for achieving the First runner-up and Most Innovative Prize in the category, Sustainable Eco-Friendly Boat (with Teacher), during the NYP Science and Technology Challenge. The NYP Science and Technology Challenge aims to foster interest in Science and Engineering in students through hands-on games and activities that provide opportunities for students to translate theory into real life applications. The school would also like to thank Mr Chen Yit Chien and Ms Gu Tong for guiding the students and being there for them in the competition.
M1 Netball Schools Challenge League 2018
Our B Division girls participated in the M1 Netball Schools Challenge League and fought hard against their opponents. During each game, the girls showed their competitive spirit and perseverance. Our defenders put on a strong game, intercepting every pass while our shooters gave it their all. Northland is proud to announce that our B Division girls won all five games in their group round, crowning them firstin the group category.
